A world record attempt!
We are absolutely thrilled to have been asked to be part of an amazing world-record breaking dance event. An incredible man called Ben Hammond is attempting to break the world record for continuous dancing, by dancing for five days non-stop! Yes, that’s 131 hours of continuous dancing!!
It’s an unbelievable challenge and he’s doing it to raise awareness of the situation in Burma – one of the poorest and most oppressed countries in the world. And as part of the record, he’s inviting thousands of people to join him during those five days, dancing in the world’s biggest-ever silent disco on the banks of the Thames in London.
We're Free to Dance!
Hipsinc has been invited to be the bellydance representatives for this event, which is called Free to Dance. We will be leading a four hour bellydance slot in the silent disco, from 10am until 2pm on Thursday 13th October. It will be a mixture of teaching people to bellydance and performances from Hipsinc students. And the whole event will be live-streamed on the internet so the world can watch!!
In a silent disco, rather than music being played out loud, everyone wears headphones, so the outside world just sees people dancing in time to silent music! It looks really funny, but there’s a very good reason for it, as it means the music and dancing can continue for five days, right through the night, without disturbing neighbours.

As part of our disco, we are inviting everyone to join us in a fantastic, fun bellydance flashmob!
Whether you are a hipsinc student or a bellydancer or bellydance student from anywhere, come to the stage at 1pm and perform the dance that you see taught in the You Tube clip on this page. Then we will all stream off, down into the auditorium, find someone in the audience and dance with them!
If you work in central London and are coming in your lunchhour, we guarantee you'll be away by 1.30.
There are two ways to get involved. You can either come along and participate in the whole hipsinc slot (including the performances if you are a hipsinc student) Or you can just come along for the flashmob. And make sure you tell all your friends!
The event is costing Ben £30,000 to put on, so he’s asking people to pay a pre-registration fee to guarantee their place and help cover his costs. This fee will be £12 for us with our special discount code HIPSINCISFREE (all capitals). However, if you wish, you can arrive without pre-registering and just pay a refundable deposit of £10 for the headphone. But there are only a certain number of walk-up places so of course you may miss out. And Hipsinc students who pre-register will have their name put in a draw for a one month Freedom Pass!
