Bellydance classes

Project 'Lift Off' with Charlotte!
“For years, I have dreamed of bringing bellydance to a wider public.

We bellydancers know how amazing our dance form is, but it has rarely caught the imagination of the general public as a performance dance. As a result, we find ourselves mainly dancing to other bellydancers in haflas and student shows or in a restaurant, which is never ideal.

But now I am working on a very exciting project which has the potential to be a complete game changer in the UK and beyond! It is currently in the very early stages of planning and will take several years to come to fruition, but if it does come off, I will need a substantial body of very highly trained, superb bellydancers to help me realise my dream.

Think Bellydance Superstars but bigger, more exciting and much higher profile!!

So I’m starting a series of very special advanced courses in central London, aimed at training bellydancers up to the standard of the best dancers in the West End! It's an ambitious project but I know there is so much talent in the UK to tap into. I want to develop that talent and create dancers of the highest possible standard of professionalism and skill.

The courses will change each time, but always develop from one to another, so you will be progressing and building on the skills learned in previous courses. Most of all, I’ll be treating you like ’proper’ dancers – always challenging you to perform beyond your present capabilities.

Come and join me in the most exciting journey UK bellydance has ever taken!”

Who are the courses for?
If you are an advanced/professional dancer or a talented intermediate and you want to challenge yourself to become the best dancer you can be, then these courses are for you!

If are ambitious and dedicated you won’t find a better opportunity to push yourself to the limit and aim for high profile, big stage performance. But you don’t need to have the desire to perform professionally – I’m keen for any enthusiastic and talented dancer to enjoy the challenge and explore their potential!

Part of my own challenge is to create a new style of bellydance which will appeal to a wider audience and translate well to television and the big stage. So I will be drawing on Western dance forms such as ballet and jazz, and learning from big scale productions such as Riverdance; whilst always holding firm to my roots in Middle Eastern dance.

Each class is two hours long and the first hour consists of demanding drills and exercises aimed at increasing strength, flexibility, stamina and core bellydance technique. The second hour focuses on specialist bellydance skills, styles, props, performance techniques and dance qualities.

Each course will run over four to six weeks. They are held on Sunday afternoons at Dance Works in central London (just off Oxford Street). For more information email charlotte@hipsinc.com To discuss if this is the right course for you, please phone Charlotte on 07802 499728.
